This world-renown entertainment company was consolidating staff and real estate they had previously occupied in nearby Santa Monica. When two contiguous spaces became available in their main headquarters building in the Miracle Mile area, they grabbed it. These two spaces totaled 45,000 square feet and was previously occupied by Virgin Records and EMI. Since the building floor plate was larger than one football field, it was critical that the newly acquired spaces “flowed” and connected with their existing space aesthetically, visually and psychologically.
The design philosophy was to create a main thoroughfare over 200 feet long to connect existing space with the new that is colorful, inviting, and visually stimulating, with the ability to soak up company cultures through back lit graphics, display walls, awards, etc. The carpet banding solution was inexpensive yet effective. We implemented materials such as red honeycomb Panelite that diffuses light yet creates boundaries between public spaces and heads-down work areas.
We were also asked to update and “brand” the existing lobbies with inexpensive yet bold solutions. We created flooring “super graphics” from 3M material (often seen in supermarkets) applied to sealed concrete, added interactive floating monitor walls outside of elevator cabs, and introduced gaming areas, de-stress and fun zones to address the cultural and collaborative needs of this young, “work hard, play hard” staff.
Overall, the space is crisp and light with an industrial twist. |
